Nathaniel Brookes is a man on a mission of retribution. After witnessing the murder of his father, a Customs Riding Officer, by a band of ruthless, cutthroat smugglers, Nathaniel swears that he will find his father’s murderers and bring them to justice. Leaving behind a medical career, Nathaniel follows in his father’s footsteps and becomes a Riding Officer.
In rural Wales, Nathaniel finds life is more difficult than he expected, ostracised, alienated, hated and in danger; can Nathaniel end the corruption and make the Bristol Channel safe for sailors?
Against the Tide is a terrific read. Interesting because it has a slightly different aspect to it, most books seem to be written from the side of the smuggler; the family man desperately trying to scrape a meagre living to keep his family alive, or the roguish pirate.
The Riding Officer and Customs Men are the enemy. An enemy that you can hopefully bribe to keep away or, if push comes to shove, can get rid of them in a more terminal manner. It is a pleasant a change to hear the side of the men trying to uphold the law. A very good change, a highly enjoyable read and Against The Tide could lend itself very well to a series of books, or serialisation for television.

Nadeem Leigh
I saw this young man on BBC's "The Voice" and he truly touched my heart with his incredible voice and vocals. It is a travesty that he didn't get through but I am convinced that something big will happen to him and deservedly so.
He is sincere and compelling both vocally and visually. Check him out at: Nadeem Leigh Music. I am a confirmed fan.

ROSE
Writen by Elizabeth Revill Daughter, sister, mother, wife, Rose West England’s most prolific female serial killer fascinates many people all over the world. Brutal circumstances lead one young woman to become an active partner in a killing spree that would shock the world. Much has been written on the horrific murders at 25, Cromwell Street with great speculation on the extent of Rose West’s involvement. The evidence is clear from surviving victims that Rose actively engaged with Fred in the sadistic murder and sexual torture of ten young women or maybe even more. The intriguing question, which emerges is: what if they had never met? And what lead a pretty little girl to do such demonic acts... The coming together of these two people from similar abusive, incestuous and violent backgrounds made an invisible bond that drove their insatiable desire for deviant sex into a blood-lust killing spree that is unique in history. It has never before been seen, on this scale, perpetrated by a husband and wife. In effect, it was a marriage of blood. Rose explores her life, past and present, and in conversations with her younger self reveals her twisted thinking, and her belief that incest was normal. She displays callousness for her victims and children, and cunning beyond her measured intelligence whilst engaging in innocent activities in her prison cell such as embroidery, knitting and cooking. The fact that Rose’s father was a violent paranoid schizophrenic and paedophile was extremely relevant. This had a huge effect on Rose’s developing personality. She formed her own idea of justice in the home and the aberrant behaviour of her father was seen by her to be ‘normal’. Fred was a man in her father’s mould, so ‘Weird Freddie’ did not scare her, in fact he enthralled her and she embraced him. The events at 25, Cromwell Street were inevitable. My reasons for making Rose, its target audience and cultural value by Carl Medland, Director I have always been curious in getting closer to understanding what motivates killers. Especially when the killers are female. Myra Hindly and Rose West are the two names that most fascinate me. There have been many programmes on Myra Hindly but I feel Rose West has always been chiefly seen as Fred’s wife and accomplice. There has been much speculation towards the level of her involvement which sentenced her to life imprisonment. My focus and reason for making this film is to bring facts from research about Rose the daughter, sister, mother and wife to an audience in an unbiased way and to get closer to her inner dialogue, her feelings and thoughts, into who is Rose West in the bid to understand what could have motivated her into the horrendous acts. Whilst having a transparency of consequences of actions, what happens when we take the wrong path and are influenced by others into making wrong choices. I knew I needed a sensitive writer to be able to turn my ideas into a screenplay and I discovered - Liz Spear AKA Elizabeth Revill who wrote “Killing me Softly” which dealt with the themes of murder and incest with such maturity and understanding that I contacted her with a frame work I wanted the films approach to take. Liz supplied me draft after draft until I was happy this film would assert itself in a catalogue of films, which I respect "Monster", "Our Children", "We Need to Talk About Kevin" and "Notes on a Scandal" all of these films dealt with provocative themes some based on real events and were written and in a sensitive manner. Also we would pull in the same audiences. Most people are curious and are fascinated to explore and understand not only the lovely things in life but also the unimaginable, cinema is the perfect medium to connect them, explore these themes that are based on human emotions and the motivations that cover a whole array of shades. The audience I am aiming to appeal to are people who love biographies, crime investigations, serial killers, and films inspired from true life, emotive films and dramas. We will be investigative, compassionate whilst remaining unbiased in our quest for understanding. Many people call "Rose West" a Monster without knowing her involvement or facts around the case. Buy presenting some facts in an investigative manner whilst assuming her inner dialogue we will get a more rounded impression giving insightful thought provoking insights on understanding Rose. |
