The Electra Conspiracy

The Electra Conspiracy is an contemporary thriller with some romance and a battle between opposing political forces. This script was read by Lee Levinson who said, "OVERALL COMMENT: THE ELECTRA CONSPIRACY is a fast-paced and compelling suspense thriller. The story is laced with intriguing twists and turns, and sprinkled with humor and romance. The scenario plays out like a roman a clef novel. The pivotal character, ELECTRA, is the music world's counterpart to Diana, Princess of Wales. Mohammed Khalid bears a close resemblance to Mohammed Al Fayed, the disconsolate and wealthy father of the late Dodi Al Fayed, boyfriend of Princess Di. " He described the premise, story line and setting as excellent and the overall writing as perceptive, suspenseful and witty. He also, praised character and dialogue.
Logline:
A young couple filming a biopic on an activist rock star get caught in the lethal crossfire between powerful competing political forces as they seek to investigate the crash that caused the singer's death.
Synopsis:
British film makers Amy Wilde and Jon Curtis just want to make an entertaining documentary about Electra, a pop icon famous for her singing voice and strong opinions about capital punishment and the sale of land mines. Unfortunately for Amy and Jon, they've chosen the wrong singer at the wrong time.
The Brandenburg Sect, a secret group of top Western politicians and businessmen who generally get what they want, decide Electra has to go; her subversive views are too popular with the masses. The Sect has already interfered once in Electra's relationship with the heir to the British throne. Now she's dating a wealthy, powerful Saudi.
Security forces under the Sect's control use Manchurian Candidate-style mind control to re-program captured convicted murderers and terrorists to kill for their side on command. Most notably, Carol Stevenson who with her twin brother murdered their parents at the age of twelve. Triggers for these re-programmed assassins have been set in Electra's musical recordings. Electra is close to discovering this misuse of her musical tracks when she dies in a fiery crash.
Investigations reveal a conspiracy, which Amy and John are determined to uncover and use in their film. It is not the time to explore their growing attraction to each other - it is not the time to fall in love. They are marked people targeted by security services with their bank accounts frozen and identities stolen. In a race against the clock, can Amy and Jon alert the public to the truth before they too are eliminated? Or will the not so faceless men in black win the day?

The Wedding Party

This whacky comedy has universal appeal and relevance. It's an ensemble piece that's edgy and contemporary dealing with a taboo subject and doesn't lose its realism in the farce. Stephanie Rogers represents me and said of this piece that I have written a comedy, THE WEDDING PARTY, that deals with singles who are grappling with commitment and who love to "party hardy." Like THE HANGOVER, the comedy is delicious and the characters well-delineated and the dialogue is "spot on." These young twenty-somethings are near train-wrecks but ultimately "right" their wheels just on the brink of disaster and love lost forever.
Logline:
When Clarke and Janey wake up with different bed-mates after a drunken Hen and Stag Weekend, a pre-nuptial itch and other nasty repercussions put their wedding on hold.
Synopsis:
Janey jumps the gun when Clarke asks her to move in, which she takes as a marriage proposal. Thankfully, he comes round to the idea and they plan their nuptials, which includes a Stag and Hen weekend away. Although each group plans in secrecy they pick the same weekend and the same destination.
The first night, Tina the chief bridesmaid ends up in bed with Enrico, an gorilla of a barman, and a womaniser. After a second night of binge drinking Janey wakes in Enrico's arms while Clarke and Tina discover they're in the same bed and remember little
of how they got there. Horrified - they try to put the evening behind them.
However, Enrico has given them more than they bargained for. His wedding gift is a nasty rash that infects Janey, and Tina who in turn infects Clarke .
Forced to confess their indescretions to each other Clarke and Janey come to an understanding until Janey discovers Clarke's bedmate was her best friend, Tina. In Janey's eyes this is undoubtedly the worst form of betrayal.
Clarke's forced to leave his flat and struggles to win back Janey's trust and love. He's hampered by a new job proposal, which demands he's unattached, and the buffoonery of his best friend, Brian, who's also trying to win the woman of his dreams, Janey's other good friend, klutz, Angie whilst dealing with a suicidal older woman at the same time.
The result is a good natured romp, which really does have a happy ending.

The Forsaken and the Damned

Life before the Cultural Revolution in China and Singapore was harsh, particularly for women. Baby girls were frequently left to die after birth and those that survived were undervalued. But spiritually, the Chinese and Singaporeans have always maintained an enviable faith and indomitable spirit for survival.
Recently, I went to Singapore and I was excited by the vibrancy of the city and the uniqueness of its multicultural society and its inescapable links with China. It was such a safe environment for women and this also impressed me.
While I was there I read a number of books; true stories of life before the Revolution leading up to the Second World War. I found these fascinating. I was particularly touched by the oral history from Comfort Women and anecdotes of the unendurable life of young girls in Orphanages, which motivated me to write The Forsaken and the Damned as a screenplay.
Logline:
A baby girl born in the mulberry fields survives a cruel orphanage, slavery and more, before escaping to find happiness with the love she meets in Singapore.
Synopsis:
A worker gives birth secretly in a mulberry plantation. The baby girl is left to die, but a woman finds and abandons her to a cruel orphanage where the girl grows up working as a slave amidst horrific brutality. Only known by a number and forced to live on watery rice and yams, her friend Number 11, LILY, instills in her hopes and dreams and gives her a name, MAI LEE.
Sadly, Lily takes her life after escaping. Lily has inspired Mai Lee to survive and visits her in spirit to say goodbye. As a spirit she exacts revenge on her ruthless tormentor. Lily has to serve penance for her murderous act but later on interacts as a guardian angel to Mai Lee.
Mai Lee is shipped to Singapore. Her head shaved, and deloused before being tossed in a sack and carried to the docks. Mai Lee survives a typhoon and the vicious rats on the boat. In Singapore, she is made beautiful and prepared to be sold as a prostitute. The female dealer’s son, YUAN, is taken with her and intervenes in the sale persuading his mother, SU LI, to sell her to a wealthy but alcoholic woman to be her adopted daughter and slave.
The woman’s husband, MANCHU, who rejected his wife because she couldn’t have children tries to rape Mai Lee. She’s rescued by Yuan. Her foster mother, AARYN JONG, tries to kill her in a drunken fury when she realizes her husband is chasing after the girl. This she regrets once she is sober.
Helped to escape by a female servant whom she calls AUNTY KO, Mai Lee and Yuan return to his seaside village. But the Japanese, knowing of their trade, have earmarked an expected consignment of girls as Comfort Women to be transported to Borneo. Afraid she will be taken, Mai Lee is disguised as boy.
Problems occur when the arrival of MIKO, from the same orphanage, recognizes Mai Lee and gives her away. She and the girl are taken into custody. The Japanese are cruel. They have tortured the woman in the adjacent cell who they believe is involved with activist rebels. Later, Miko is raped to death but a young Japanese soldier, HIROTO, helps Mai Lee to flee after they hatch a plot to fool the Japanese. Sadly, the Commander, TAKAGI is not duped for long and returns to ravage the village.
Yuan is forced to kill a soldier to protect the girls and his mother from discovery and knows that he will be a marked man. He and Mai Lee go on the run. Tracked by the Japanese, Su Li gives her life for her son, and with the help of Hiroto, Yuan and Mai Lee escape from their clutches to a new life.

Whispers on the Wind adapted from my novel of the same name.

WHISPERS ON THE WIND, is a most beautifully written and powerfully dramatic story or a young girl on the verge of womanhood whose many hardships and trials only make her stronger and forge her into a courageous, remarkable young woman much before her time. Gifted with intelligence and a will of steel, she refuses to be a victim of circumstance or abusive men and becomes a woman of independence in a day and age when women were considered second class citizens.
Logline:
A young girl endures a life of hardship and sorrow but grows stronger as she is forced to become a woman before her time.
Synopsis:
After the death of her mother in childbirth CARRIE has to deal with her father, BRYN turning to drink. He suffers an accident leaving one side of his face hideously burned and fashions a mask to hide his disfigurement. ANNIE, his sister comes to stay and helps Carrie through her budding maturity. She’s returning to her own home when the arrival of JACKIE EBRON who has come to work for Bryn, fills her with cold disquiet.
Jackie ingratiates himself with the family. He intends to swindle the family of everything they own and when Bryn’s younger sister, NETTA, comes to do her stint they begin an affair. Jackie believes he‘s found an ally but his lustful eye has lingered on Carrie and he decides that she is to be his glittering prize much to the anger of Carrie’s brother, JOHN, who harbours secret, unhealthy thoughts about his own sister.
After a drunken evening Jacky persuades Bryn to a game of cards. Bryn loses the deeds of the farm, Hendre. In despair, Bryn wanders into the night and tragically drowns. Carrie and John learn that the farm is no longer theirs and they are forced to move to the derelict property known as Gelli Galed (Hard Living). Jackie arranges for Carrie to travel with him to Neath under the pretext of buying second hand furniture but on the way back he rapes her. He concocts a story to explain Carrie’s shocked ill state and pretends to go for the doctor, but has the money safely tucked in his pocket from selling Hendre. Netta, is suspicious and when she learns the truth chases after Jackie with murder on her mind.
Netta catches up with him and is almost convinced by his silver-tongued flattery but while he makes love to her, she plunges a knife into his back. Netta’s arrested.
Carrie discovers to her horror that she’s pregnant but with the help of DR. REES miscarries Jackie’s child. Carrie and John believe that they can safely live at Hendre until the untimely arrival of MICHAEL LAWRENCE, an outsider, who bought the farm, in good faith from Jackie. Michael takes over and the children move to Gelli Galed but every encounter that Carrie has with Michael Lawrence ends in a blazing row. It’s obvious that there’s an underlying attraction here, which fuels John’s jealousy.
ERNIE TRUBSHAWE is hired to help on the farm. He’s an eccentric with a delicious sense of humour and remarkable intuition. As snow sets in, John gets caught in a blizzard and would have died but for Ernie’s quick thinking. Carrie displays the first signs of her nursing talent.
The doctor’s concerned when nothing is seen of Michael Lawrence. A reluctant Carrie calls at Hendre. Ernie forces an entry and they find him barely conscious. Carrie’s forced to look after Lawrence and discovers more of her nursing talents. She asks Dr. Rees for help in achieving her goals. Carrie leaves for a nursing job in Aberystwyth to escape John’s suffocating love and begin a new life.
A heart wrenching “coming of age” story depicts one young woman’s spiritual and emotional journey as she struggles against all odds to find her rightful place and to make a life for herself. An engaging tale played out against a tangled web of traumatic and life affirming experiences, which shape her into a woman never to be forgotten.

Synopsis:
As a young boy, NATHANIEL BROOKES witnesses the wanton murder of his father at the hands of a band of ruthless wreckers that rule the Welsh coasts in the late 1700s. Even at such a tender age, he is aware that he will find little help against this cruel and bloody industry. His family is taken in by his paternal uncle, JEREMIAH, to whom he feels morally obliged to follow his wishes for a medical profession and to court his cousin, HANNAH. On attaining adulthood, Nathaniel abandons his profession of Doctor to take up that of a Riding Officer to hunt down the killers and avenge his father.
Nathaniel comes face to face with the Law's impotency against these criminals who wield their reign of terror aided and abetted by a corrupt civil society. He befriends, and eventually falls in love with, JENNIE, whose father is also murdered for betraying the smuggling fraternity. He finds puny support from PRITCHARD, his superior officer but finds strong assistance from GOLIATH, an escaped slave who is being hunted down by the wreckers led by the mysterious SMUGGLER KNIGHT.
Almost all the villagers that assist or befriend Nathaniel are cut down indiscriminately. When Jennie is kidnapped and almost raped to death, Nathaniel embarks on a daring rescue and returns home; defeated. Distances matter very little and when Nathaniel discovers that the powers of the treacherous Smuggler Knight can also reach his family, he returns to the scene of the crime to challenge the fraternity. Betrayed by Pritchard and Jeremiah, Nathaniel must do battle to save his own life and that of Jenny and Goliath; armed only with their own strength, resolve and the love-bond of his family.

Girl Inside Out co-writers Xen Birkman Nance and Debbie Majinska

This touching and inspirational human family drama is based on the true life experience of Texas producer Xen Birkman- Nance and how she was raised. Liberally peppered with humour it both surprises and inspires and makes us question our own preconceptions about family life and what it should be. It has a moral message and is not squeaky clean, dealing strongly with moral issues and how Xen survived what life threw at her and coming through some horrific treatment to make something of her life..
Logline:
The world of a drug dealer and young girl collide, leading them on a journey of self-discovery, which brings understanding and an unbreakable bond.
Synopsis:
Jeanetta (11) has her life turned upside down when her parents divorce and her prescription drug addicted mother, DONNA (34) hooks up with a black drug dealer, JOE (36) who shows her family more compassion and nurturing than they are used to.
Jeanetta's blatantly obvious insecurity manifests itself in her solemn expressions and sucking on her security blanket. Joe teaches her many lessons in surviving the human jungle and the dreaded math test. He slowly builds her confidence, teaching her about nutrition and how to cook. He takes the role of both mother and father, including, reluctantly, taking her shopping for her first bra.
Just when life seems to improve for the family Jeanetta's brothers ZACH (12) and NICK (14) are put in their real father's custody. This breaks the fragile mother, Donna, who is rushed to hospital with a drug overdose. Joe is considered unfit to look after Jeanetta now 12 and she's taken by Child Protection Services to Sanctuary House a home for troubled children and teens.
Sanctuary House is not the haven it purports to be but it's not long before Jeanetta is moved on again to a foster home with a particularly cruel, perverted foster father, MR. GRIMES (late 40's). Jeanetta flees the house and she and Joe go on the run before secretly returning home.
Joe then fights for Jeanetta, persuading Child Protection that Jeanetta's in greater danger in the care system than at home with him. He knows he must give up drug dealing, turn his back on the life he has known. Dealing has been the only way he could make the money needed to provide for the family. With no college education he worries about what he can do.

An unbreakable bond has formed between Jeanetta and Joe, which has shaped her into the woman she is today.
Past Lives co-writer Ben Fielder

"A dramatic and disturbing TV series in the making."
Logline:
A series of ecological and natural disasters around the world trigger an awakening of the minds of people living in these devastated areas. They begin to remember their past lives.
Synopsis:
Man made and ecological disasters are hitting the headlines but they bring with it a curious side effect. People begin to remember who they were in a previous existence.
The repercussions are enormous as people remember past feuds, loves, hates and relationships within their living soul groups. But why is this happening now?
Is the future of mankind in jeopardy? If, as some prophets have predicted that maybe the end of the world, as we know it, is forthcoming, then here is the opportunity to embrace good karma by putting right things that have gone wrong but the reverse of this is a resurgence of vendettas, conflict, and murderous destruction.
Two strong people emerge in this ‘Awakening’, a psychic healer and hypnotherapist, MADDIE CARTER (28) who discovers that she herself is the reincarnation of a saint, and all the trappings that entails, and GARY BARTON (34) an investigative reporter and skeptical of all things psychic/supernatural/paranormal.
Gary does, however, to his surprise, experience strange recurring dreams, which he struggles to suppress. He attempts to investigate Maddie but he is inexplicably and strangely drawn to her. Together they form a duo to investigate the legitimacy of the many stories that are capturing public attention as well as those from people privately trying to find logical, scientific explanations for their weird experiences.
Some personal remembrances are poignantly moving, posing more questions than answers for the people involved. Others are opening the floodgates to a Pandora’s Box of Terror.
What Maddie and Gary do not know is that these events are being brought about by the reincarnation of one of the greatest tyrants in history who has been primed on the other side, from the depths of Hell to orchestrate the end of the world.
But where there is evil there is also good. The reincarnation of some members of the Knights Templar try to uncover the identity of this tyrant who is able to exploit spirits possessing this capacity for wickedness. He reunites murderous villains with their past life memories igniting their thirst for wrongdoing, which happens quite dramatically allowing them to avenge their own violent deaths by exacting revenge on their own terms.
Reborn Al Capone, AL FRACCASE (36) is a steady threat and danger throughout using hidden treasures as leverage in order to gain power. He becomes the smokescreen in hiding the real evil behind the dark deeds, Hitler LAITHE L. FORD.
The Knights Templar actively seeks out the architect of evil to stop it in its tracks but they are hampered by their own fears, especially those who were burned at the stake, of fire.
Each case is different and each case includes one more integral part of the puzzle to find the supreme answers for the future of the world. But, can Maddie and Gary work together in harmony? Can they discover the real reasons behind such remarkable happenings and can they ignore the growing attraction that builds between them?
